BRUSH
BURNING GUIDELINES FOR WHITMAN, MASSACHUSETTS
Burning
of brush, cane, driftwood, forestry debris, (other than from commercial or
industrial land clearing operations), will be allowed between January 15th
and
May
1, 2002
,
under the following conditions:
- Burning
must be at least 75 feet from all buildings,
- Burning
must not be started prior to
10
a.m.
and in all cases must be extinguished prior to
4
p.m.
,
- Someone
must be in attendance at all times at the fire until it is completely
extinguished,
- A
water supply (such as a garden hose) and shovels and/or rakes must be
readily available for controlling the fire.
Each time you wish to burn, call the Whitman Fire Department at (781)
447-7626 to ascertain if burning is allowed that day.
You will be asked for your permit number and address, which will allow
you permission to burn – for that day only.
Burning
of grass, hay, leaves, stumps, tires and lumber is prohibited.
If
you wish to apply for a permit to burn, you must appear in person at the Fire
Department Headquarters, located at
56
Temple Street
between the hours of
8
a.m.
and
5
p.m.
There is no fee for a burning permit in Whitman. The permit is
effective from January 15th through May 1st.
